1. Based on Albanese’s statement, “children are poor because parents are poor”, do
you agree with this statement or not? Why? So, why do we refer to “child poverty”
and not “family poverty”? Please argue and defend your argument.
2. If you were a politician and a proposal was before parliament that aimed to make
divorce harder to obtain, how would you vote on this issue? Why? How would you
convince others to support your views? Use an argument.
IMPORTANT INSTRUCTIONS: Justice for Children Midterm July 9, 2024- to be submitted both questions as Essay 1 and Essay 2 on one document either word doc or PDF.
Both questions should be completed in an essay format: therefore, there should be an introduction- with an evident thesis statement within the intro; the body of your paper; and a conclusion. (Each answer is a long answer in an essay format)
Your paper should be based on the textbook aided by lecture notes and tutorial discussions. Outside sources are NOT permitted. Please use APA references and remember to cite any concepts, readings, or information in general that comes from our course textbook; thus, when you are using your textbook, be sure to provide an intext citation for example (Albanese + year). This would be adequate, no need for page number or any additional information.
2 Each of your essays should be between 750 to 1000 words, double spaced, Time new Romans, Font 12 . This means your midterm paper should be max 2000 words in total for both questions. Make sure your thesis statement is underlined or in bold.
In marking your midterms, your TAs will be looking to see how you defend your thesis statement by using course content, and critical analysis and engagement with course material– consequently, simply reiterating what the book says without critically examining the content is inadequate. Your TA will additionally be looking to see if your paper has good flow; academic tone used throughout; proper grammar and punctuation; and whether you cite properly. Just use course content and reference our book (Children in Canada Today).
