Assignment Instruction: Look around your neighborhood and community and identify what they need and what problem should be solved urgently. This identification and development of a need (or needs) is a very important step for writing a grant proposal. Assuming that you are a member of a nonprofit organization or one who wants to create a social organization to solve a social issue, develop a need statement, which will be part of a grant proposal. The following recommendations (not only these recommendations but also the detailed discussions in the texts) should be appropriately addressed:
1. Be clear and specific of what need you deal with.
2. The need being addressed in the statement should have a clear relationship to the organization’s mission and purpose.
3. Any assertions about the needs should be well supported with evidence (statistical facts, expert views, media reports, etc..). Hard and soft data should be effectively used here.
4. The statement must be easily digestible. Avoid using jargons, and do not make the reader have to work to understand the point.
5. Include one story that makes the case more compelling and persuasive.
6. Do not choose the responsibilities and services that governments usually provide. For example, building bridges and resurfacing roads in local communities are government jobs that a nonprofit organization cannot replace.
7. Assume that you are writing this statement for the grant reviewers, not for the instructor of this class.
Length: Between 500 and 600 words (Not including references). Please submit your files as a Microsoft Word document (DOCX). You should be using APA style to format your documents.
