PAPER 1 – THE INFLUENCE OF THE INTERNET ON MUSICAL CREATIVITY AND COLLABORATION
Write a 1000 word paper about how the internet has transformed the creative musical creation and collaboration. Use the readings and other materials that have been assigned thus far as well as the following articles and the video by Henry Jenkins:

Address the following questions in your paper:
How have music making and collaborative musicking changed in the wake of the internet?
How do these changes in musical creativity relate to broader social changes that have been brought about by the internet?  Ubimus, the infosphere, networked individualism, and participatory culture are all relevant to this discussion.
What precursors were there for the changes in musical creativity and participatory culture that have occurred with the development of the internet? How do you think these pioneers would react to today’s democratized creative musical landscape?
Comment on Baudrillard’s description of “the aestheticization of the whole world” as well as “The Death of the Artist” by Deresiewicz and the article by Bernard Stiegler.  Do you agree with the assessments of these writers about the potentially negative impacts of technology on creativity? Why or why not?
Illustrate your ideas with examples and explore other articles that deal with these issues. Remember that the focus of this paper is the creative aspects of music’s relationship to the internet, not the transformation of the music business.
