What is the definition of a patriarchal society? Cite at least one of the required readings in support of your response
Who would you then argue is the primary audience of media; that is, whose interests more or less shape and control the media; why do you think this is the case (this should not simply be your opinion; think carefully about this, and cite at least two sources from our readings to support your argument)?
What activist movement in the US would you argue rose in response to patriarchy? What are its goals; what are the arguments made against the movement? Cite at least one of the required readings in support of your response.
In what ways does media exploit women’s bodies/sexuality (e.g. in film, television, video games like Grand Theft Auto, Lara Croft, Music videos, advertising, etc.)? Provide examples and support these with two acknowledged sources
What are the messages being reinforced through these media portrayals/exploitations of women? Provide examples and support these with sources.
In what ways do gender, race, and class impact these media portrayals of women (refer to the intersectionality thinkpiece, as well as the Crenshaw-Williams TEDtalk videos, and from your own research)?
Finally, are there empowering representations of women in media? If yes, provide examples. If no, what would be your solution?
