Here are the questions to answer from primary source choice in complete sentences, but PLEASE NUMBER THEM. Please do not put it in essay format and watch the video above before completing this (please mouse over each question for a more in-depth explanation):
1. What is the title of your primary source and who wrote or created the document?
(Please do not tell me the website that created it. Who is the one speaking or who wrote this primary source)
2. What
is the perspective (POV) of the person who wrote it? In other words,
who are they and what do they believe? How does their life experience
affect the message of the document?
(Not looking for a summary here, who were they? What was their life experience and how did that shape their belief about the situation? How did that change the tone of the document-this is the POV.)
3. Who is the intended audience? Explain why that matters to this document and how it affects the message. (Please note: the audience is never”everyone” or the “public” look at the tite of the doc begins to give you help in this area.)
4. Briefly summarize the main idea of the document. (What is this document? Who wrote it? Imagine you are telling a friend about what you are reading-how would you phrase it? Something clear, yet consice.
5. What
details or quotes lead you to your conclusion about the main idea? Cite
the most powerful line of the document – and importantly, why did you
find it significant?
6. What is the historical significance of the document?
7. How does it relate or connect to issues we deal with in today’s society? Be specific as possible.
