Hierarchy of Reliability
“Every source of information must be judged on its own merits and in the context of other available evidence. But it’s possible to provide a very general ranking of trustworthiness for the sources we rely on for most of our knowledge—a kind of hierarchy of reliability” (Vaughn, 2024, p. 126).
After reading Chapter 6, write an essay that reviews how three different sources from each tier of the hierarchy discuss a particular topic. Discuss each source’s strengths and weaknesses, how its context affects its reliability, and the impact these sources might have on your understanding of a particular topic.
For example, you could review three articles about climate change: one from a scientific journal, the second from a local newspaper, and the third from someone’s personal blog.
Please provide APA citations and a References list for all three of your sources.
Types of Sources:
Tier 1 – Higher Reliability: Articles from peer-reviewed scientific journals.
Tier 2 – Moderate Reliability: Reports from reputable news organizations and interviews with climate scientists.
Tier 3 – Lower Reliability: Blog posts and social media discussions on climate change.
