Assessment:
After reading, researching, and selecting an economic topic from current events approved by the instructor, the student will produce a research report following the timeline and construction requirements. The report will require the use of both economic theories and concepts to analyze the nature and relationship of the known variables of their chosen topic and identify a reasonable conclusion. Grading is based on the ability of the author /student to support their conclusion regardless of the instructor’s position on the topic. A holistic grading approach will be used to determine if the author/student has true understanding of the selected topic and use of economic theories and concepts to determine a valid conclusion. The assessment will account for thirty percent of your final grade and points will be earned by you based on the grading criteria.

Research Topic:
1. Analyze the economic effects of government subsidies for renewable energy sources on market dynamics and consumer behavior.
Topic: Investigate policies where governments provide subsidies to producers of renewable energy, such as solar and wind power.
• Elasticities: Examine the price elasticity of supply and demand for renewable energy and how subsidies affect market prices, production levels, and consumer adoption rates.
• Market Structures: Assess the influence of subsidies on the energy market structure, particularly the transition from monopolistic or oligopolistic fossil fuel markets to more competitive renewable energy markets.
• Marginal Utilities: Explore the changes in marginal utility for consumers as renewable energy becomes more accessible and affordable, and the broader environmental benefits.
Construction of the Report:

• The report will be 750 to 1250 words in length (roughly 3 to 6 pages).

• The report must be typed using APA format and the following rules from me:
• Double-spaced
• Standard margins
• 12 pt.
• Times New Roman or Arial font
• A minimum of three documented sources
• In-text citations with work cited page (not included in word count)
• Must be saved in .doc or .docx format.

Artificial Intelligence may not be used to write your paper or support you in critiquing your paper. Using Grammarly, Google Translate, and popular AI-generated tools like ChatGPT and Copilot can result in an automatic “F” grade being assigned. Alternatively, I can assign a zero and then ask for an oral presentation, which may involve questions explaining excerpts in your paper.
