For this assignment, you will identify and analyze a counterargument to your research project using rhetorical analysis techniques. My topic is how automation will negatively impact employment/job displacement so a counterargument would be arguing that automation is good. I left a link below I thought was decent but if you find a better one by all means use it.
Instructions:
Identify a credible, academically reliable source that presents a counterargument to your research project’s main argument or thesis. This source should be from a reputable academic journal, book, or other peer-reviewed publication.
Read the counterargument carefully, taking notes on the author’s main points, evidence, and rhetorical strategies.
Write a rhetorical analysis of the counterargument, focusing on how the author presents their position. Your analysis should include: a. A brief summary of the counterargument’s main points b. An analysis of the author’s use of ethos, pathos, and logos c. An examination of the author’s tone, style, and language choices d. An evaluation of the counterargument’s effectiveness based on its rhetorical strategies
Remember, your goal is not to argue against the counterargument or refute its points. Instead, your focus should be on analyzing how the author presents their position and the rhetorical techniques they employ to make their case.
Your rhetorical analysis should be 2-3 pages in length, double-spaced, and follow appropriate academic formatting (e.g., MLA, APA).
Include a works cited page with the full citation for the counterargument source.
Submission: Submit your rhetorical analysis as a Word document or PDF file
Grading: Your rhetorical analysis will be graded on the following criteria:
Selection of an appropriate and academically reliable counterargument source
Depth and insight of the rhetorical analysis
Clear explanation of the author’s use of ethos, pathos, and logos
Analysis of the author’s tone, style, and language choices
Evaluation of the counterargument’s effectiveness based on its rhetorical strategies
Adherence to the assignment instructions and academic formatting guidelines
Format: Your essay should be concise, spanning 3-5 pages, double-spaced, using a 12-point font and 1-inch margins. Include screenshots, stills, or links to your chosen medium as appropriate. Format your essay and citations in either APA or MLA format. Include the citation for the article you are analyzing on your Work Cited/Reference page (depending on the citation format you have selected)
