Knowing how to recognize emerging technologies is one of the roles of teacher leaders of technology. As you grow in your knowledge about educational technology, you may find yourself in a position of decision-making in your school wherein you have the opportunity to suggest or implement the various technologies; therefore, the SAMR model can be a useful tool for leadership.
In this first assignment, you will apply the SAMR model to examine technologies that you use in your organization or institution, rationalize their adoption, and to acknowledge other technologies that might have been replaced or affected by the tool. In your written response, identify two different technologies (either hardware or software) with which you have the experience, and preferably, use frequently in your organization.
Explain each tool through the four levels of the SAMR model.
What does it redefine?
What does it modify?
What does it augment?
What does it substitute or replace?
In addition, respond to the following:
Try to rationalize its adoption if you were not part of the decision-making to adopt this tool.
Why did school leaders choose to adopt and implement this tool?
Did political, societal, or financial factors influence its adoption?
Identify the intended and unintended effects of this tool adoption.
Determine what other tools/technologies this tool replaced or made obsolete.
Describe the potential impact of the technology on teaching and learning, and then explain why a school might or might not want to adopt this particular technology.
