Charlotte Perkins Gilman’s Herland explores an encounter between three American men with the inhabitants of a land they discover, a land inhabited entirely by women. Throughout the novel, Gilman explores the nature of what is feminine and what is masculine. As you read the book, pay particular attention to her descriptions of gendered qualities.  What qualities, does she argue, are socially constructed to suit American society? What qualities does she seem to imply are natural? In your paper, explore at least 3 specific examples. Also consider: are there any issues that she fails to address in her analysis of gender roles in the early 20th Century?
