Please make sure that the work is typed in a size 12 font and that you use atleast a 1.5cm line spacing. You must put a title at the top of the page which indicates the demographics of the victim (Male, female, young or old) and the crime they are the victim of.
What I am expecting to see is a clear indication of what the needs are for your chosen victim and how policy, practice and research addresses and meets those needs. ‘From the perspective of’ doesn’t mean you write it as if you are the victim, it is still written in an academic way.
The best way to structure the essay is to give an introduction into the victim and the crime, what I mean by this is to give some context of the crime, rates/stats, definitions etc. You should also highlight what the needs of your victim are, you may want to give 4-5 needs but when it comes to writing the essay just concentrate on 3.
The following paragraphs should then discuss a need and whether policy, practice and research (P,P and R) does enough to address the need. The best way to keep the essay critical, and that’s what we are looking for at level 3, is to discuss each need and how P,P and R addresses or doesn’t address it.
If you don’t find much in the way of P,P and R, don’t worry because what that tells you is that not enough is being done for the victim, in this case you can discuss what other countries are doing and say that they are better than the England and Wales but otherwise don’t use international examples. The essay should be set in E&W. The other thing you can do is look at what happens for other genders, e.g. male rape vs female rape victims.
The conclusion should round everything up but be decisive, say if what is being done is good enough, what else can be done, how should victims of the crime be treated. Remember be critical.
Suggested structure (you can structure a different way but remember to critique):
Introduction – context given and needs expressed
Paragraph 1 – need discussed with P,P and R
Paragraph 2 – need discussed with P,P and R
Paragraph 3 – need discussed with P,P and R
Conclusion – decisive outcomes
