Word Limit
There is a word limit of 500 words. Use your computer to total the number of words used in your assignment. However, do not include the reference list at the end of your assignment in the word count. In-text citations will be included in the additional 10%-word count. If you exceed the word limit by more than 10% the marker will stop marking at 550 words plus 10%.
Aim
The aim of this assessment is for students to articulate their professional identity at the early stage of their nursing studies. It also provides students an opportunity to understand, elaborate and reflect on their own culture, values, and beliefs and how this may impact on their practice as a nurse. Reflecting on personal attributes and commitment to the profession is helpful in developing a professional identity.

At the School of Nursing & Midwifery, our nursing philosophy is: We believe that at the heart of nursing is the delivery of safe, purposeful, and compassionate care with our nursing graduates having a true sense of purpose and belonging. Students are required to engage in a portfolio (time capsule activity – professional identity) task that reflects the statement above and contains your personal reflection on becoming a nurse.
