Response to Olga
A scene in the film Birdman that I found particularly memorable was at 37:44 when actor
Michael Keaton (Birdman) walks into the theater and down the hallway to find
his daughter off to a room on his left appearing to be working late and smoking
pot. This scene was memorable to me not because it was a beautiful moment, but
because as a parent it caught me off guard as much as it did the actor that did
a great job portraying it, which dives into the effect that the one shot had.
As opposed to the conventional way to shoot a scene, with lots of shot edited
together to orchestrate the scene, the camera movement, changing proximities to
the camera, and lighting used adequately in the long take shot, presented the
ability for me to experience it both in real space and real time which had me
engaged to the point that I felt I was witnessing the event unfolding live.
