Existential Project – Eulogy
A eulogy is a speech given at someone’s funeral. It is typically a short narrative of the person’s life, which often includes short stories and how he or she will be remembered. Your assignment is to write your own eulogy. This is a time to reflect upon your life, specifically your relationships with others, including the greater community and culture in which you exist. It is a time to think about your accomplishments, adversity you have faced, and the person you have become. Included as a theme throughout the assignment is your concept of authenticity. We will be discussing different theories of authenticity, so as part of the assignment you may incorporate one of the ones we discuss in class, use one that was not discussed, or perhaps create your own. Consequently you will be required to include the word “authenticity” or “authentic” in your eulogy along with a definition. The eulogy will be written in third person, past tense (e.g., she was…) and two-three paged double spaced, size 12 font, and 1-inch margins.
