For this post, you will examine how stereotypes about gender, race, class and other categorical identities have impacted your life in some way.
You will write a 250-word post discussing how gender and other stereotypes, or widely-shared preconceived, oversimplified notions about groups that flatten differences among members, have impacted your own experience in some domain of your life. You may talk about your experience being stereotyped or your experience stereotyping others. You should discuss a concrete encounter with stereotyping, not generalities.  You should describe the specific stereotype involved, how it influenced or impacted you and/or those around you, and how you dealt with the positive or negative consequences of those stereotypes.
The goal is to analyze the influence how encounters with positive and/or negative gender stereotypes have shaped your individual experience in the world. Do not spend time defining stereotypes. Show through your analysis of your own experience that you understand the concept.
IMPORTANT: You must explicitly use the following of concept where appropriate: stereotype. Place each term in bold when you use it the first time.  Failure to explicitly name and use these concepts will result in a maximum 1.75 out of 2.5 points for that section of the assignment. Limit your definition of terms and focus on showing you understand the concepts through your analysis.
You will then write two 100-word posts replying to a classmate. Your posts should help develop and deepen the insights of the original posters about the importance of gender and other stereotypes for individual experience. You should draw on knowledge from other sociology classes as well as course concepts and texts when applicable.
IMPORTANT: Your reply posts must substantively develop the original post in some significant way.  Reply posts that simply (dis)agree with the original poster without adding something new to the conversation will receive a maximum of 1.5 out of 2 points for that portion of the assignment.
