1. In a one-page summary, include the following information about your assigned New Jersey County:  The overall ranking of your assigned county’s Health Outcomes and Health Factors.  In Health Outcomes, include the ranking of your assigned county in length of life and quality of life.  In Health Factors, include the ranking of your assigned county in health behaviors, clinical care, social and economic and physical environment.  A lower number in each ranking for a county indicates that county is healthier than the other 20 (out of 21) counties in New Jersey.  After reviewing these rankings, conclude your paper with a one page iconographic that summarizes your assigned county’s health.  Thus, you will be using imaginary to illustrate your county’s health rankings in length of life; quality of life; health behaviors; clinical care; social and economic; and physical environment.  For example, if your county was ranked with a low number for the physical environment (indicating that it is on the healthier side), then you would include a picture of your county with a lush landscape.  If your county was ranked with a high number for the physical environment (indicating that is on the unhealthier side), then you would include a picture of your county depicting an image of pollution.
2. Depending on the cause of death, racial/ethnic and gender disparities exist on years of potential life lost in the United States.  Years of Potential Life Lost (YPLL) can be defined as the number of years lost when death occurs before one’s life expectancy.  For this assignment, life expectancy will be set for everyone at 75.  For YPLL, a death of a very young person is weighted more than a death of a very old person (Seabert, McKenzie, & Pinger, 2022).   Investigate one cause of death (infant mortality, homicide, suicide, unintentional injuries (such as car accidents, drowning, falling, etc.), pregnancy complications, COVID-19, etc.) in the United States and research the YPLL for racial/ethnic groups and genders. Summarize your findings in your paper and discuss how calculating YPLL can change the way we think about that particular cause of death differently.  Provide factual documentation that reinforces your findings from at least three peer reviewed sources and include the citations in your narrative (where appropriate)
3. Read the scenario provided at the beginning of Chapter 5. Assume that Kenzington is the town in which you now live and you belong to the group that has taken the issue to the city council. Based on what you know about your town, answer the following questions: What is the real problem?  Who do you think are the gatekeepers in the community?  What groups of people in the community might be most interested in solving the problem?  What groups in the community might have a vested interest in seeing the problem remain unsolved? What interventions do you believe would be useful in dealing with the problem?  What sources of evidence might you use to help with deciding on an intervention?  Provide factual documentation that reinforces your findings from at least three peer reviewed sources
7. Our health is affected by the quality of our environment, including the air we breathe, the water we drink, the food we eat, and the communities in which we live.  Environmental health is the study and management of environmental conditions that affect our health and well-being.  Environmental hazards are those factors in the environment that increase the risk of human injury, disease, or death.
Identify what you believe to be the number one waste or pollution problem faced by the United States and why.  Provide factual documentation that reinforces your view from at least three peer reviewed sources
8. Healthy New Jersey 2020 is the state’s health improvement plan and its health promotion and disease prevention agenda for the decade.  Healthy New Jersey 2030 does not include the data needed for this particular assignment.  There are 11 objectives in Injury and Prevention, with 4 objectives not progressing towards the goal.  Review the objectives that are not progressing toward the goal, or worse, negative progression toward the goal has been documented.Go to the Healthy New Jersey 2020 website on Injury and Violence Prevention (https://www.nj.gov/health/chs/hnj2020/topics/injury-violence-prevention.shtml).  Review the 11 objectives and focus on investigating one of the four objectives not progressing towards the goal.  Hover over the objective of interest and click to view the most current data available. You will then be directed to another website – the New Jersey Center for Health Statistics – for the available data on that health issue. In your paper, discuss the statistics you found on your chosen health issue on the New Jersey Center for Health Statistics website.  Provide the most recent data found by sex/gender, race/ethnicity, age, and county of residence, as well as, any other data relevant to your chosen health issue.  For example, has this health issue improved or not in the past decade?  Identifying if a health issue has improved or not, depends on the health issue. For example, we want to see the rates decrease for deaths due to suicide but we want to see the rates increase for seat belt use.  Include longitudinal data, as well. Continue to scroll down the page of your health topic and click on “Data Notes”, “Other Views”, “Health Indicator Definition”, Health Objectives and Targets”, “Current Outlook”, and “Health Improvement Resources” as a guide to help you find the requested data for this assignment. Discuss any prevention strategies being undertaken in the State for this health issue and describe them (i.e., what populations are the focus and what are the strategies being used to improve this health issue). Include what departments within the New Jersey government (such as the Department of Health or Department of Human Services) are participating in prevention programs and what are their roles in these prevention efforts (are they providing funding to resources in a community and/or are they providing services to specific populations in need)? To summarize, does it seem that the prevention efforts being undertaken in the State making a difference in improving this health issue? Provide factual documentation that reinforces your findings from at least three peer reviewed source
