I have answered all the questions from this assignment. However I know I have run in sentences and a few other mistakes that may need to be taking out and re-worded. I just want to make writing I did better. I would like for you to read what I wrote and make changes to it as needed. ACES stands for “Adverse Childhood Experiences.”
HERE ARE THE 3 questions I answer to:
4) Reflect on three things you learned from each video, the article, and the ACES Infographic (this should be at least one paragraph each)
5) How did the information above impact you on both professional and personal levels? What is your “take-away”, or the thing that stood out the most to you about the ACES study? (this should be at least one paragraph)
6) How do you plan to apply the information you learned from the ACES study and this Canvas Assignment? (this should be at least one paragraph)
HERE ARE MY RESPONSES:
Three things I have learned from the videos, the article, and the ACES Infographic are how childhood trauma affects health across a lifetime, the traumatic events that occur with children doing their childhood years, and their mental health. In one video Dr. Burke-Harris talked about childhood adversity which can show up in your mental health and physical health. The second video Dr. Burke-Harris talks about is threats that are pervasive to children like abuse or neglect, growing up with one or two parents that struggle with mental health or drug issues. In the article I learned that many of the doctor patients had chronic health problems that potentially could had effects on their health conditions such as heart diseases, chronic asthma, diabetes and much more which could have led from their childhood events in their life. Finally, there is the ACES infographic. I learned that ACES are traumatic events in childhood aging from 0-17 years old. Children will or have experienced neglect or witnessing violence. It can also negatively impact their mental, physical, behavior, and emotional development. Children can also suffer from toxic stress who have experienced adversity.
The information about ACES has impacted me with the studying and learning of this assignment. I can relate to ACES because I was once a child who endured all the signs that effects children to this day. I went through a lot of childhood trauma that affected my adulthood. I can say this is a situation for children that does not need to be overlooked. And I am so glad to learn about ACES and the types of experiences that children endure. I can recall my childhood on every topic that I have learned about this. On a professional level I will be deeply knowledgeable about Adverse Childhood Experiences and be prepared to address them. With the negative experiences I had growing up in the DHR system, I will be ready to help children going through these tough situations.
How I plan to apply what I learned from the ACES study is volunteer at local events here in my hometown and be an advocate for children, increasing my knowledge of the issues and what I have learned. Making a positive change and being alert for children who need caring love and support. I also plan to support parents as well as the children if they reside in the same household. Applying what I learned I can help children build social and coping skills and give one on one time. Children are our future and I want to help in any way I can.
