In addition to your Visual Portfolio, the other key assessment for this course is a Data-Informed Vision & Goals Literacy Project.
As part of the Tennessee Literacy Success Act (PC0003Links to an external site.), districts are required to administer an approved universal reading screener to all students in grades K-3 during three administration windows each school year, and report data to the Tennessee Department of Education (the department). As either a reading specialist or a special educator, it is important that you be able to administer and use results of multiple assessment tools to systematically evaluate literacy instruction at the individual, classroom, school, and district levels. The Data-Informed Vision & Goals Literacy Project is designed to help you approach doing this in a systematic, thoughtful manner.
In a nutshell, you are to identify and describe the various types of assessment  tools. And then you are to analyze a given data set for strengths and weaknesses. Once you have completed your analysis, you are to collaborate with a person you consider to be a highly effective literacy teacher to develop evidence-based literacy goals for the purpose of increasing student achievement. Keep in mind that you are approaching this from a whole class or whole grade perspective, NOT for an individual student (take off your hat as a classroom teacher where you are used to thinking about improving achievement for just one student). This collaboration can be with a colleague at your school or with a peer in this class (and Zoom is definitely a good way to collaborate on this!). If you collaborate with a peer who is in this course with you, please do not turn in the same paper. It should be your own work.
