Citation Format & Resources
For writing assignments, you should follow two best practices: (1) Include a full citation to the text you’re citing in a “Works Cited” section at the end of your essay and (2) provide in-text citations.
All of our class readings are available online. I provided PDFs in the modules, but most of those files don’t include all the info you’d need for a full citation.
So, here’s a model that you can follow to provide a full citation to the readings that have page numbers next to them on our “Tentative Schedule of Readings” (syllabus pp. 11-15). You’ll just need to replace the purple text with the paper you’re referencing:
Last name, First name. “Title of Essay.” Introduction to Philosophy, Norton & Co., 2018, Page range of entry.
Format in-text citations for quotes or paraphrases like this:
(Author’s last name page #).
Example: (Descartes 265).
