Introduction to the Climate Stories ProjectCheck out the evidence of climate change provided by NASA.
The Humanities (art, literature, culture, history, music) have had a hard time digesting climate change and producing narratives about it. Stories about climate change have been largely the province of science, which has produced highly technical narratives about it. But there is something else at work. The Humanities sees humans as its subject and sees nature as simply a backdrop to the human story and as largely inert.
We must change our view of nature and our relationship with it. We live in a new era, what scientists and others refer to as the Anthropocene, in which humans need to consider the natural world and our impact on it. Humans are now having an enormous impact on the environment on a planetary scale, and have become, in effect, geological agents. Secondly, nature, in the form of severe climate events, is having an enormous impact on the way humans live. We need to learn to tell these stories in the humanities if we are going to fully comprehend the world in which we live.
