Module 03 Assignment – The Paradigm Shift
Professional educators are reflective practitioners. Reflecting upon past practices, considering theoretical history, and making connections to current best practice demonstrates professional responsibility and strengthens our knowledge and ability to best support children and families.
Write a 2-page reflective essay describing how the past (history, child development theories, and guidance theories and practices) has influenced the present (current best practices in positive behavior guidance). Use your experiences in the early childhood setting to guide your reflection. If you do not have extensive experience in ECE, reflect on what practices were common in your own upbringing. Be specific about past and current philosophies, theories, and models. Address the following:
How has the paradigm shifted from punishment to guidance?
Where does discipline fit in?
Do you see evidence of the past and current best practices in your preparation of the educational environment?
Do you see evidence of past and current best practices in your teaching or guidance philosophy?
Incorporate at least one credible resource to support your insights, opinions, and research. Use in-text citations where appropriate. Include an APA formatted title page and a reference page.
