Read all three documents in the Week 3 – Essay 1 module. Especially, read the chapter “The Strange Realm of Numbers” from the book The Philosophy Gym by Stephen Law. This chapter contains a dialog between two characters: Kraus and Bridie.
Decide and then state in your essay whether you agree more with Kraus or more with Bridie. (You don’t have to agree completely with either of them, but you should decide which character’s view you are most inclined to agree with.)
Explain what you think are the strongest reasons for your agreeing with that character. (You may use the materials by Maddy and Dunne in this step, if you think it helps.)
Explain what you think is the strongest point made by the opposing view. (For this step you should use only the chapter by Stephen Law.)
Explain why you remain unconvinced by that opposing point (from step 3) and so continue to agree with the character identified in step 1. (You may also use the materials by Maddy and Dunne in this step, if you think it helps.)
The maximum length of your essay, not including title page and bibliography should not exceed 6 double-spaced pages.
The ONLY sources you should use are those in the Essay #1 module. You MAY NOT use any other sources.
If you use any AI tools in preparing your essay, you must include a statement at the end of your essay explaining exactly which tools you used and how you used them. (Be sure to review the statement on the use of AI tools in the “Syllabus and Preliminaries” module under Content).
Be sure to include a bibliography listing the sources you use in your essay (this is standard academic practice).
