Read the Declaration of Independence at the following link: Declaration of IndependenceLinks to an external site. and answer the following questions.  Make sure to number each answer and use good grammar and spelling.
1) What argument is Thomas Jefferson making for declaring Independence from Great Britain?  In other words, what is the role of a government according to Jefferson and when is it justified to break free from a government and establish a new one?   Be specific.  Quote directly from the document, if necessary.  
2) Jefferson gives a long list of grievances against the British.  Quote at least TWO of them and explain what each of them mean by using your knowledge of the relationship between the colonists and the British on the eve of the Revolution from your textbook reading.  Be specific.
3)  Jefferson states that “all men are created equal.”  Did this mean women, slaves, and/or Native Americans, too?  Use what you learned from your textbook and the Declaration of Independence, itself, to answer this question.  For example, are there specific passages in the document that show Jefferson did not intend this statement for the groups above?  Be specific.
