Slide 1
– Title:  Diabetes in Miami-Dade County and Florida 2012-2022
Slide 2
– Location of your geographic area (include map), population size.
Slide 3
– Population pyramid, compared to that of a larger region (county compared to a state, state compared to U.S., or a country compared to a broader region, etc), comment on the shape of the pyramid and the phase of demographic transition.
Slides 4 -7
Describe the demographic characteristics of the area’s population (e.g. age, sex, race/ethnicity, ancestry information, language spoken at home, citizenship, ability to speak English), income, employment status, and disability. Use tables and or graphs and compare your area’s demographics to that of the state where the county is located. Look up mortality, fertility and migration data. See recorded presentation on accessing US Census. Point out important differences and comment on the data in slide notes.
Slides 8-11
– Based on your topic and the information you find, discuss probable health status issues, health care use or needs of the community (This can be based on what you have read in Pol and Thomas and other readings. You do not need to research this at length, but you can use tools such as Florida Charts or other surveillance data). You can compare morbidity, mortality, disability etc.- based on your topic- with the larger area. So if rates of disease are higher in a county compared with its state over time- e.g. a decade or more, show trend ( HIV infection rates are higher in Miami-Dade than in Fl or US). Provide descriptive epidemiology of the health issue for your area- morbidity and/or mortality by age, gender, race and ethnicity, socio-economic status, etc – comment in notes where you see differences. If no difference by gender, for example- no need to comment or even provide graphs and tables (no pattern- no suggestions). If there are disparities (e.g. by race or ethnicity)- then compare epi measures and comment/point out in notes.
Slides 12-13
– Conclusions and public health recommendations
Slide 13-14
