Study all of the material in Chapters 3, 4 & 5, considering the research on the social, emotional, and cognitive development of infants, toddlers and young children. Pick the best/most interesting theories/research/developmental issues from any combination of Chapters 3, 4 and/or 5, you do not have to use them all.
After you have a good understanding of the theories and research, write an answer the following question:
You have a friend who is pregnant and is also getting ready to move in with her partner who is divorced and has full custory of two children that are 3 and 7 years old. She knows you took a class on Lifespan psychology, and so she asks you: “I know babies and children need basic things like good nutrition, physical safety, and love, but what are the things that I can specifically do as a caregiver for these young children to help raise kids who are cognitively, socially, and emotionally healthy?”
Provide a written answer to this friend that is based on the psychological research, picking THREE important things that adults can do to help meet the psychological needs of children aged 1 to 10. Explain each theory/issue clearly, in detail, and in your own words. Explain HOW and WHY each of these three things are meeting the social, emotional, and/or cognitive needs (do not address physical needs) of young children, and also provide a specific EXAMPLE of exactly how adults can talk to or interact with a child to achieve that developmental goal. Pick the best/most important theories/research – you may use any combination of cognitive, social, or emotional development, you do not have to cover them all.
BASIC FORMAT
Have an introductory paragraph, and then a minimum of at least 3 additional paragraphs – one for each theory/developmental need that you cover. (You may have more than one paragraph per theory, this is just the minimum). And then also have a concluding paragraph, so each essay will be between 5 to 9 paragraphs.
For each issue/theory that you present you must provide the source of the psychological information, which must come from the course materials for Chapters 3, 4 and 5. Do not use outside sources, only course materials. Use an informal citation such as: (Textbook, Chapter 3) or (PowerPoint, Chapter 5) or (Handout, Chapter 4), this does not need to be in APA format and a page number is helpful but not required. Failure to cite the course (the Chapter and the which course resource you are referring to – textbook, PowerPoint, guest lecture, or handout) will result in a penalty.
Remember that this is a college assignment, and college-level writing is expected.
