For the Assignment:
Choose one question below to complete a short literary analysis of one element of the short story.
The story takes place on a busy street in the Harajuku fashion neighborhood of Tokyo. How does the setting impact the story? How does it help develop the plot?
Some of the topics explored in this story include love, loneliness, and lost chances, among others. Identity a topic and develop a thematic statement for that topic, what do you think Murakami trying to convey about that theme? If your topic is love, what do you think is being conveyed about love through the actions, words, and thoughts of the characters?
