Reflection Assignment: A Piece of Your Mind
To wrap up the week, I’d like you to read a short essay from the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) and think about some of the big questions we’re exploring in the course. The essay is part of JAMA’s weekly column called A Piece of My Mind, where medical practitioners reflect on their personal experiences.

In the text area, write two paragraphs total (three or four sentences each) with your thoughts on these questions. (It’s a good idea to write your paragraphs in Word or Pages on your computer, saving, and then pasting into the course, so there’s no chance you’ll lose your work.)
Do you believe the artwork in a hospital, clinic, or private practice can have an effect on patients? What effects? Do the healthcare spaces you’ve visited do a good job choosing artwork and other visual elements of the space? Why or why not?
The paintings in the exhibition the writer describes are of people with disabilities. What would your reaction have been if you’d been a patient in the hospital?

1 issue. Get in the habit of using spell & grammar check and providing references for college-level writing. Personally, I am a poor typist and need to autocheck everything I write. For instance, I tend to reverse g and n in words ending with “-ing”. It’s annoyign when I don’t catch this typo. If you catch me makign a typo in announcements or assignments (other than in this rubric where I’m doing it on purpose as an example), message me through Carmen and I’ll waive 1 such error for you for every 1 of mine you catch so I can fix it! You might be surprised how this adds up given my lack of touch-typing skill…
